FRAGSTATS, LEAP II

Making sense of ecological patterns is the key to understanding ecological processes and effective monitoring of management impact on the environment. Landscape pattern indices provide quantitative means to examine and track landscape patterns. Fragstats and the Landscape Ecological Analysis Package (LEAP II) calculate a wide range of these indices useful for forest management planning, landscape fragmentation and other spatial pattern applications.

Spatialworks has proven experience in the use of both of these packages, in fact members of our staff were part of the team that developed LEAP II. We have extensive experience in the interpretation of these often complex measures, their sensitivities and limitations, and when they are and are not appropriate to apply to management and monitoring questions.
